Outlaws Run 2009. Act 1: A night in Dinosaur and some time exploring Browns Park

To kick off the 2009 Outlaws Run, I drove NW from Denver, meeting up with my pal Sean in Dinosaur National Monument. From Dinosaur, we headed to Browns Park, camping for the night at the Gates of Lodore for the night. There friends Martin and Daniel would join up with us.

Browns Park was a significant spot along the “Outlaw Trail”. Being so close to the boarders of Utah and Wyoming, it was easy for Outlaws to move stolen cattle across a state line if a sheriff was after them. The Bassett sisters were born in Browns Park and known girlfriends of Butch Cassidy. Butch and his Wild Bunch would frequent the park often. At one end of the park, you’ll find Jarvie’s Outpost. A fine spot on the banks of the Green River. John Jarvie, a Scotsman, built the ranch at a natural crossing of the Green. At it’s peak, the ranch had a store, Post Office, ferry and a cemetery.

Browns Park, Diamond Mountain, Swinging Bridge and Jarvies Outpost.

From Browns Park, we continued North into Wyoming. Were local resident Wyatt would be waiting for us.

Checking out an old burn on Diamond Mountain. As we were driving to check out Diamond Mountain, A local told us that there was a cabin not too far that Butch Cassidy owned. We spent a little time looking but had no luck. Definitely will have to come back!

Before continuing North, we stopped at Jarvies Outpost.

A fantastic spot along the Green River.

After some time enjoying Jarvie’s Outpost, we continued our trek North. Crossing into Wyoming near Rock Springs.
