Outlaws Run 2007. Act 1: A washed out Fremont River crossing before finding camp along “Nasty Flats”

After a long drive west from Denver, we spent the night in Rabbit Valley to help break up the drive to Hanksville, UT to meet up with the rest of the group.

We woke up early to finish the mornings drive to Hanksville, UT to meet up with the rest of the Outlaws crew.

At the Hallow Mountain gas station.

Airing down at the trail head for the Fremont River crossing.

Daniel heading to the river crossing.

Dropping down the washed out bank.

The crossing itself is really easy with a concrete bottom. It’s just the banks on either side that can be trouble.

Daniel was able to get across to the other side without assistance.

Richards turn.

Kurt from Cruiser Outfitters was next.

Kurt dropping down the washed out bank.

Richard getting a strap from Daniel.

Kurt was able to power out of the bank without needing a pull.

Barely off pavement and Paul May of Equipt Expedition Outfitters was STUCK. Buried in mud to the frame.

Sign pointing the way to the old town site of Giles.

Kurt pulling cable.

First winch attempt.

Couldn’t pass up on this show of Paul:).

German tourist that were passing by even stopped to offer help.

Ultimately, it took a lot of shoveling, a double winch pull and a burned out Power Steering Pump to free Paul from the mud.

Brian’s turn at the river crossing.

Paul dropping down the washed out bank.

No sooner did we get everyone across the Fremont River, then we found the road past to be un-passable. So we turned every one around, crossed back over the Fremont River and figured out Plan B.

After fixing Daniel’s flat tire (that also got water in it from the crossing) in Hanksville, we headed into the Henry’s via the access road from town.

Starting to climb out of the Desert.

Kurt.

At Wickiup Pass before turning onto Bull Creek Pass.

A great stretch of road as we make our way to Bull Creek Pass.

Evening set in over Capital Reef and the Water Pocket Fold.

Camp among the Aspens at “Nasty Flats”

Paul May’s nicely set up 100 Series Land Cruiser.

End.
