Outlaws Run 2021. Act 1: The trek South, A Very Large Array and a visit to Pie Town

After a late start leaving Denver, we headed South via back roads with the intent on camping at Mills Canyon ( been wanting to get back for some time!). But after the delays, we made a dry camp outside Folsom, NM on what little public land we could find. The next morning, after an enjoyable walk around the rim of the Capulin Volcano, we continued the trek South.

Folsom has some great history when it comes to Outlaws. Butch Cassidy, Black Jack Ketchum and others passed threw it’s walls. Black Jack Ketchum robbed the train just outside of town, only later to be hanged.

After a stop in ABQ, for lunch we continued the drive, finally coming to the Very Large Array as the sun was setting. We spent a bit of time checking out the Array from a distance since it was closed to the public due to Covid. After, we set out for camp. Finding a nice spot in the Cibola National Forest just South of the Array.

From the Array, we continued West. After some delicious Pie in Pie Town (that’s what was reported back to me- allergic to eggs), we found a nice spot for the night in the Airplane Hills. Near midnight, the rest of the gang would show up.

Good to have the gang back together.

Emory Gap. Enter New Mexico.

Of course, had to stop at the old hotel in Folsom, NM while passing through. Many a Outlaws paid a visit. Butch Cassidy among them.

A fine New Mexico Sunrise to start the trip:).

Enjoying a quick stroll around the rim of Capulin Volcano NM

We couldn’t pass up a stop at Pie Town. Sadly being allergic to Eggs, I couldn’t partake:(. Rest of the gang enjoyed there’s.
