Chasing the Cumbres and Toltec, Fall 2016. Act 3: The chase from “Whiplash Curve”

We had a fun morning chasing the Antonito train from “Whiplash Curve” to Sublette, NM. We had to do a bit of route finding, as there are quiet a few dirt roads in this area, but we were able to get to the upper portion of “Whiplash Curve” to start the chase. A fun part of this chase, is when the dirt road parallels the tracks. We found ourselves moving along at a good pace just to keep up with the train. We were able to beat the train to Sublette, and even managed to chat with some of the crew before they departed to Osier.

Heading out from camp and making our way down to “Whiplash Curve”

And so begins the chase:).

The group is off to the next photo op.

We got ahead of the train to get a pic of the rigs at this stretch of track just below Sublette, NM.

After getting the shot, we quickly hoped in the rigs to beat the train to Sublette, NM.

Two of the group made it to Sublette.

Chatting with some of the crew before they continued on to Osier.
