Act 2: Lockhart Basin

After getting back to Highway 211 from Beef Basin, we headed over to the start of Lockhart Canyon, where our friend Lee from Georgia was waiting for us. Crazy to think that the last time I ran this trail was way back in 2010. All I can remember from that trip was that it took us a day to go from Beef Basin, complete Lockhart and end up back in Moab (think we got back into town around 3pm?).

To start this years trip back over Lockhart Basin, we meet up with our friend Lee from Georgia, who was driving a 200 series Land Cruiser. For most of the day, the road was mellow and high speed. After lunch, things slowed a bit as obstacles here and there kept our attention. Some it seemed, we didn’t remember from the last trip. As we got closer to Moab, and the switchbacks dropping into Hurrah Pass, Marco ran out of gas. A short time later with Marcos tank full, we finished the last of the hard obstacles and set up camp. After dinner, a long night hanging with friends.

A great day on the trail.

At the trailhead for Lockhart Basin (Canyonlands side). Topping off the tanks.

Enjoying the drive. A smooth start to the trail.

We took a detour to check out the Colorado River. Time in his nicely (recently) built FJ60- that a previous member from the club owned.
