Exploring the Gila. Outlaws Run 2021

Another Outlaws Run in the books. 9 days, 1800 miles, great pals and lots of fun times! Having missed last years run, it was great to get back out with the gang. We headed down to the Gila National Forest for this years trip. It’s been a place I’ve been wanting to check out for some time, seeing that Alma, NM was an important stop along the “Outlaw Trail”. A place Butch Cassidy spent a bit of time at- working on the WS Ranch just outside of town. It’s a haul to get down to the Gila from Denver, and it seems we only managed to touch the surface of this fine part of NM.

Some of my favorite pics from the trip. Enjoy!

Emery Gap. Enter NM.

Folsom Hotel. Hosted many of the famous Outlaws during it’s heyday.

Camp views.

New Mexico Sunrise:).

Capulin Volcano.

Very Large Array.

Exploring dirt roads around the Array.

Bob with some fine views of the Plaines of St. Augustine and the Very Large Array.

Pie Town, NM.

Dutch Oven Pass.

Gila National Forest.

A fine camp.

Checking out some Petroglyphs outside of Reserve, NM while Matt Farrs 80 series Land Cruiser got worked on. We came upon this washed out bridge. Used to be behind us. Had to have been a big wash out.

Oultaws.

Miscreant.

A fine end to the day. Looking West to Arizona.

Give this Outlaw a Double IPA!

Good pals.

Checking out the Cat Walk. Super cool hike with some great swimming holes.

We took a dip in the swimming hole behind the waterfall.

More of the Cat Walk.

Mogollon, NM.

Group shot.

A quick stop in Alma, NM before continuing on. Alma was an important stop on the Outlaw Trail. Butch came down this way to let things cool off. Ended up getting a job as a forman on the WS Ranch. Later most of the Wild Bunch became employed there. Butch also worked as a bartender at the local bar in Alma. Supposedly Butch served a beer to a Pinkerton detective agent who was out looking for him.

Gila Cliff Dwellings. Nice to get out and stretch the legs.

“T”. A signature of the Anasazi, or Ancestral Puebloans. Migration.

Some fine country.

Making our way North and looking for camp.

Had a fine feast that night!

    1. Thanks man! Farr’s Master Cylinder went out as we came into Reserve, NM. The shop ordered a new part from Phoenix and had the truck ready to go the next day.

    1. Thanks Dale! Was actually raining when I took that pics. A nice swell came in as we were setting up camp. Loved the feel of the forest during the rain.

  1. It looks like a great trip. I love that you string lights at camp. Or is it “glamp”? Wonderful pictures – the catwalk, the petroglyphs, the old signs. Thanks

      1. Matt, it very much was! Think were gonna head back that way next year. Nice to take a break from the snow.

    1. It was a most fantastic trip! Definitely more “glamping”. Thanks for the kind words and glad you enjoyed them!
